Rock Tawa Cast Iron Pan, 50 mm, Black

A sturdy pan, just as expected. It’s just a lengthy process to clean it, but that’s given when you’re buying a cast iron pan and being environment friendly. The appam too turn out to be soft and crispy.

The appam pan has very unstable base as it does not have a ring like edge at the bottom unlike other pans. The bottom has only the 12 bumps coming out from the 12 appam cavities. So when you put it on gas burner the base does not stay stable. After lot of adjustment you may find one position where it’s little stable, but you move it a bit and it against slips or becomes slanted. I was scared that it would fall down on my feet while cooking. Disappointed with the design as it is from Rock which is otherwise a reliable cast iron brand. I returned it and bought another one from a different brand which has a ring like structure at the bottom and is very stable.

It’s made of cast iron and worked fairly well on gas stove. However, some of the outer cavities didn’t get heated up as much as the inner ones. It’s traditionally used on coal or wood fired chulha. So, a bit of inconvenience is felt while using it on gas stove. Anyone, may suggest a remedy to us. But, product is otherwise good and works well. Don’t forget to put oil film over it, after washing and drying it, as cast iron is susceptible to atmospheric corrosion.
